Extra! Extra!

This just in! Listening to Rap music will beget promiscuity!
A recent eyewitness at a Homecoming dance reports that she saw women "drop it" as if it were "hot" numerous times in a single night. There have also been several counts of "getting low" and whispers of even "leaning back."

Last night was South's homecoming dance. I didn't think I was going to go until 8:15 that night, when I got off work. I sported my $4 eighties dress and my grandmother's huge fur coat. I looked completely ridiculous... in a bad-ass kinda way.
The dance itself was not too bad, I guess. But if I wasn't having so much fun dancing with my friends, I would have been forced to focus on the shittiness that was attacking from every speaker. For example, one time I got all excited because I heard the intro to a Queen song, but then I realized that it was just another ripoff, and I was severely let down. But I have decided that I can't just say I dislike rap, because that's too general. I like Beastie Boys and Jurassic 5, and stuff like that... Pretty much rap with a purpose (ie protest) or stuff that's funny... That's the only kind I like. It's the bitches and ho's shit I can't stand.
Well, I'm gonna go smoke a blunt, roll on some dubs and bust some caps. Peace out.

Rock for the Masses

Yesterday was the day for which I had been waiting for weeks. And good lord, did it live up to my expectations!
My friends Jenny and Preston and I left town at about noon on Tuesday and booked it to Corvallis, where we picked up Sam and Jessica. It was raining in Corvallis, yet Sam's roomate was running around the block... wearing teeny-tiny shorts. Sam, Preston and I went for a quick ride on our skateboards, then the 5 of us headed on to Portland. We had dinner at Escape from New York Pizza, where we met our pal J.P who is in school in Seattle. Then it was dessert at Papa Haydn's, which was basically orgasmic. We then drove out to the Memorial Coliseum, where the concert was held.
Hot Hot Heat was the first to play, and they were excellent live; great energy, and awesome hair.
Then came the one and only Weezer. They opened with "My Name is Jonas," a change from when I saw Weezer in July. You could tell they were sick of being complained to about not having enough stage presence, because Rivers was being much more front-man-ish. They were absolutely amazing. They played 4 songs from their second album, Pinkerton, which I guess is pretty rare. And they only played 3 songs from Make Believe- this made me happy because I'm not a huge fan of this album.
They invited an audience member up to play the Sweater song, and he got a guitar. That would've kicked ass. I love you Weezer!
But not as much as a love the frickin Foo Fighters! Dave Grohl was absolutely electric on stage. Even though he was a little drunk. He announced in the beginning that he wouldn't be talking much because they would be busy delivering "hit after hit after hit." Which they did. Among my favorites of the evening were "Stacked Actors" and "Everlong," which I almost cried during.
But apparently this amazing set was nothing special, because in the words of Lord Grohl, he has "seen a million faces, and fuckin' rocked them all." What a badass.

Mix Tapes

Alright, so I spent this afternoon packing up my former life at my mother's house. I frequently got distracted by making mixes on iTunes. I do this a lot. I have often found myself creating and burning cd's until the wee hours of the morning. Today it took forever because I recently put all my music on a new hard drive, and I didn't think I'd be using iTunes in the next couple of days, so I didn't bother putting all the folders back on. So I had to hunt for all the songs I wanted. I ended up with two mixes today. Here's one of them:

1. Rest of my Life - Unwritten Law
2. Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chili Peppers

3. Skeptics And True Believers - The Academy Is...
4. Falling Away With You - Muse
5. All Deliberate Speed - MAE
6. Jaws Theme Swimming - Brand New
7. Everlon - Foo Fighters
8. Everybody's Stalking - Badly Drawn Boy
9. Transatlanticism - Death Cab for Cutie
10. Wonderwall - Ryan Adams
11. Hear You Me - Jimmy Eat World
12. Sparks - Coldplay
13. Company Calls Epilouge (alternate) - Death Cab for Cutie
14. Drive - Incubus
15. Crash Into Me (Live) - Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds

By the way, Preston, we will be listening to this and the other one on the way to Hot Hot Weez Fighters. Just so's you know.
In less than 24 hours I will be watching Weezer and Foo Fighters live in concert! Woooo!
Goodnight.

Hell Yeah, Beavers

Beavers vs. UCLA in the Rose Bowl! Can't wait!
(Just watched the news... I heard this after completing my last post.)

Hot Hot.

Well today was the first day I "worked the floor" at my new job. I have to say, retail is far superior to food service, but I guess I have a limited view, considering my ultra-shitty first job at, yes, Taco Bell. Now I'm working at Mervyns and hopefully that will give me experience enough to get hired at a cool clothing store or something.
Moderately interesting tidbit: Celebrity look-alike sighting! Last night I saw this guy whose hair made him look like the lead singer of Hot Hot Heat. My friend Jenny and I told him that he had "hot hot hair," but he definitely didn't get it. I think he was just a little wierded out.
5 days till Foozer

Six days...

With less than one week till Foozer (the soon-to-be Epic collaboration between Weezer and Foo Fighers), I am getting more excited everyday. On the 26th, I will update you on how awesome it was... Even though 2 out of the 3 people that have read this blog will have seen it as well.
In other news...
Last night I saw the premier of the Colbert Report on Comedy Central. Stephen Colbert was mighty funny, but I can't yet call his show up to the standard that The Daily Show has set for fake news shows. Hopefully the show will just get better in the future. He's a clever guy; I can't see the show bombing completely. Good luck, Colbert.
"It's French. Bitch."

Portland's Alternative

So I was a little worried that Medford's alternative radio station would be way behind the times compared to one in Portland, but I guess KROG is up to par. Today I listened to 94.7 "Portland's Alternative," and I really enjoyed the selection. Were it not for the ads for incredible Portlandian concerts, I actually wouldn't have been able to tell the difference between this station and 96.9. I heard a little Faith No More, followed by Interpol, and then Pearl Jam. All pretty basic. The only kind of random thing I heard was Violent Femmes- Add It Up... not an unpleasant surprise at all. So bravo, Portland, for being kick-ass, and bravo, Medford, for (as our friends from the hood sayeth) keepin' it real.

PS: At this record store, "Music Millenium," I saw two String Quartet tributes to Weezer... Sweet.

It pours

Tonight I'm visiting my mother in Beaverton, and I have to say, I could never live here... I love the rain and all, but if it never stopped, I think I would fall into a deep depression.
Earlier I was in Salem for a meeting at the capitol. I'm on the State Superintendent's "Youth Advisory Team." Yeah, I am a badass. I know.
Anyway, autumn is in full effect in Salem, and it's absolutely gorgeous there. The avenues around the Willamette University campus are lined with trees that are all changing colors and shedding leaves.
I was walking to my car, and when I was waiting for a crosswalk signal to give me the ok to cross the street, this guy on a longboard said to me, "Nice, huh?"
"Yeah, it's a beautiful day," I replied.
Akwardly enough, Mr. Negative was sarcastically referring to the fact that all the traffic was stopped, and there were no cars on the street with the green light.
Enjoy the weather. I'm still counting the days until Mt. Ashland opens... Snow would be nice, but this fall weather will do for now.

Hey

First post bitches.
