EndFest

Yesterday I saw Minus the Bear, Hot Hot Heat, Social Distortion, Against Me!, and Smashing Pumpkins at Seattle's EndFest.
I also watched the Used play and reminisced a little, and although they put on a pretty good show, I was really peeved at Bert McCracken (however that's spelled) and his showboating rockstar-iness. And all the little scenester girls and boys were all over it. It's like those kids who worship Jim Morrison and don't give a shit about the Doors. Hmm.
Also, Sattelite Party, who I hadn't heard of til yesterday. Perry Farrell, former lead singer of Jane's Addiction, plus 2 young guys on guitar and bass, another older dude drumming, and a hot slutty girl who couldn't dance (Farrell's wifey) on backup vocals, playing a bunch of Jane songs and wearing sparkly clothes.
Minus the Bear blew my mind.
Smashing Pumpkins only played for about an hour, but a good hour it was. Except for the douche bag who burnt me with his cigarette and the guy holding up the devil horns.

Animals, Collectively

First Seattle concert adventure: Success!
Three friends and I went to Friday night's sold out Animal Collective show at Neumo's without tickets. We were in good company considering there were 30-50 people there who didn't have tickets either. Somehow, though, we managed to get tickets scalped for all of us and the show was phenom.
First opener was Eric Copeland (not this guy) : loud. noise. but probably worth getting some of his recordings.
Followed by Wizard Prison: seriously, two guys who think they're wizards. not really like anything I'd ever heard before.
Finally, Animal Collective: way different show that I expected. really highlighted their electronic sounds. and I danced my heart out.

And to chronicle the experience, I got a poster for ten dollars- one of only 50, made especially for that show.
Lesson learned: buy tickets ahead of time, and always get extra to scalp at the show.
